2017 Women Making History Awards

On Tuesday, May 16th, the National Women's History Museum hosted the Women Making History Awards - Washington, D. C. that commemorated the achievements of women, generated awareness of the importance of preserving women’s history, and highlighted the need for a women’s history museum on the National Mall.

Honorees

Laura Bush, former First Lady of the United States, is an advocate for literacy, education, and women’s rights.

Rosie Rios was the 43rd Treasurer of the United States and is a Visiting Scholar at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University.

Diane Rehm is a native Washingtonian who began her radio career in 1973 as a volunteer for WAMU 88.5, the NPR member station in Washington, D.C.

Charles F. Bolden Jr. was selected as an astronaut in 1980. During his 14 years as an astronaut, the South Carolina native logged more than 680 hours in space during four space shuttle missions, twice as commander and twice as pilot.
