State of the Curriculum

The Museum researched the inclusion of women’s history in all 50 states and the District of Columbia’s social studies curriculums. Of the standards that include women, 56% are about their domestic roles while 2% focus on women in the work force. The research team read each social studies curriculum at every grade level and identifying women’s history one standard at a time to produce “Where are the Women?”, which can now be viewed at www.womenshistory.org/social-studies-standards. The Museum is now working to create resources that bring women into the classroom.
