National Women’s History Museum Appoints Lisa Fielding as Chief Development Officer and Promotes Dr. Lori Ann Terjesen to Chief Programs Officer
The National Women’s History Museum (NWHM) today announced two key leadership appointments that further strengthen its capacity to grow nationally and advance its mission as the nation’s leading digital-first museum for women’s history. Lisa Fielding will join NWHM as Chief Development Officer effective February 2, and Dr. Lori Ann Terjesen has been promoted to Chief Programs Officer.
Together with the recent appointment of Lisa Franklin as the Museum’s first Chief Marketing Officer, these leadership moves complete a senior team with deep expertise in building, scaling, and sustaining a national institution with a singular focus on women’s history and a modern, digital-first experience.
Lisa Fielding brings more than two decades of senior fundraising and organizational leadership across national nonprofits, with a track record of building high-performing development teams and significantly increasing revenue. Most recently, she served as Interim Chief Development Officer at One Tree Planted, and she previously served as Chief Development Officer at Farm Sanctuary. Earlier in her career, she held senior development roles at Best Friends Animal Society and the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, where she raised both large-scale donations and built national partnerships.
“Lisa Fielding brings exactly the kind of strategic, results-driven leadership we need for our next phase of growth,” said Frédérique Irwin, President and CEO of the National Women’s History Museum. “Women’s history is more relevant and urgent now more than ever. Lisa understands how to build durable fundraising strategies, how to work with boards and leadership teams, and how to translate our mission and vision into sustained philanthropic support at scale.”
Dr. Lori Ann Terjesen, who has served as Vice President of Education at NWHM since April 2018, has been promoted to Chief Programs Officer in recognition of her leadership in building one of the most impactful digital education platforms in the women’s history field.
Under her leadership, the Museum’s education programs now reach educators and students across the country, with more than six million visitors annually to NWHM’s website. She also led the development and launch of the Museum’s “Museum in Residence” program, including its inaugural exhibition, We Who Believe in Freedom, which received six awards during its residence at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library in Washington, D.C.
“Lori Ann has been the architect of our programmatic growth and our educational credibility,” Irwin said. “Her promotion reflects both what she has already built, and the central role programs and education play in our future.”
“These appointments reflect a leadership strategy built for scale, relevance, and long-term impact,” said Susan Whiting, Board Chair. “With deep strength across development, programs, and marketing, NWHM is positioned to grow its reach, modernize how audiences experience women’s history, and build a sustainable national institution.”
Together, the appointments of Fielding, Terjesen, and Franklin mark a new chapter for the Museum, bringing seasoned leadership across fundraising, content, education, and audience engagement to support its continued growth as a digital-first institution serving millions nationwide.
