Kassie John is a descendant to generations of rug weavers and storytellers. She is empowered to share her story as a proud Diné Asdzání representing the Diné Nation and the communities of Rock Point and Chilchibeto, Arizona. Kassie’s childhood home was built next to the blue-painted Chuska mountains where she grew up alongside juniper trees and tall red rock mesas lined with the stories of her ancestors. Growing up surrounded by creativity from her grandmothers, mother, aunties, and older sisters paved the way for Kassie to learn and channel their talents with rug weaving, beading, sewing, and Pow Wow dancing. Seeing how the women in her life illuminate their strength, dedication, and commitment to preserving our traditions inspired Kassie to carry on her love for our Indigenous people and her Diné way of life.
Kassie is a first-generation college graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Multidisciplinary Design from the University of Utah. Her time as a scholar taught her to listen with compassion and imagine ways to build for brighter Indigenous futures. Currently, she works for the State of Utah’s Department of Health & Human Services as a Tribal Health Equity leader. Kassie is a Designer and Illustrator striving to connect Diné and non-Diné creative practices to empower Indigenous people and carry on cultural knowledge through digital storytelling and research-based art. As an artist, Kassie aims to have our Indigenous people see themselves in her artwork, to encourage all to lead a creative life which reflects our thriving communities, our tribal languages, and our resiliency to be bold and innovative, providing a glimpse into our future together.
As a small business owner of Native Generations, a woman-owned and operated Native American dance company based in Salt Lake City – Kassie's talents shine through her work with community engagement. An avid Jingle Dress dancer, she cherishes her time spent traveling, reading, and supporting Indigenous artists, languages, and cultures. Kassie’s goal in life is to continue working with tribal communities to show the power of storytelling and its ability to create sacred spaces where we honor and lead with tradition. By amplifying stories through song, dance, and with oral traditions we give voice back to the land, people, and create a platform for tribal youth to imagine ways to heal and build for generations past, present, and future. Kassie John feels honored to represent Indigenous peoples across the globe as a cultural goodwill ambassador, proudly holding the title of Miss Indian World 2024-2025.
