Historic Change: Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Ida B. Wells

The National Women’s History Museum , in partnership with the United States Mint and the The DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center, are pleased to welcome you to this special evening celebrating the life and legacy of Ida B. Wells and the launch of the new quarter in her honor.
Ida B. Wells was a prominent journalist, activist, and researcher, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In her lifetime, she battled sexism, racism, and violence. As a skilled writer, Wells used her skills as a journalist to shed light on the conditions of African Americans throughout the South.
The Ida B. Wells quarter is the 16th quarter released in the American Women Quarters™ Program, the first circulating coin program dedicated to honoring women whose achievements, triumphs and legacies reflect the strength, perseverance, and resiliency of our nation.
