NWHM National Coalition

The National Women’s History Museum’s prestigious National Coalition is comprised of more than 60 national, predominantly women’s organizations, with educational, professional and/or service missions. These like-missioned organizations have a demonstrated a commitment to women’s equality, women’s empowerment, and/or women’s story sharing, and through their work with our Coalition, seek to support the Museum’s mission and goals.

Athena Film Festival

Over the past thirteen years, the Athena Film Festival has established itself as the premier festival dedicated to celebrating and elevating women’s leadership. Our festival highlights films showcasing women’s leadership from underexplored perspectives; women leading in all places and spaces who are resisting and refuting preconceived notions of all they can be and do. Through our Creative Development Program we are bolstering the pipeline of women creatives who are telling these stories and fostering a network of women in film.

The Athena Film Festival is a joint project of Barnard College’s Athena Center for Leadership and Women and Hollywood. The festival’s founding sponsor is the Artemis Rising Foundation and its CEO Regina K. Scully.

The Athena Film Festival Ethos
Women’s leadership takes no singular form. Stories of women leaders, in all their forms and all their complexity, are rarely shown on the big screen. Women whose leadership has been questioned, dismissed or erased, women who have risen up, spoken truth to power, women who empower their communities, inspire and educate, or women who simply survive – these are the stories we want to see. These are Athena stories.

Coalition of Labor Union Women

The Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW) is America's only national organization for union women. Formed in 1974, CLUW is a nonpartisan organization within the union movement.

The primary purpose of (CLUW) is to unify all union women in a strong organization to determine and seek remedies to our common problems and concerns and to develop action programs within the framework of the labor movement to effectively promote our objectives.

At its founding convention in Chicago, Illinois, CLUW adopted four core objectives: to empower women for greater participation at all levels in the labor movement; to organizing the unorganized; to promote affirmative action, social and economic justice in the workplace; and to increase the participation of women in the political and legislative processes.

These goals continue to be the cornerstone of CLUW's activities as members speak out for equal pay, child and elder care benefits, job security, safe workplaces, affordable health care, contraceptive equity, and protection from sexual harassment and violence at work.

With members from more than 70 international and national unions across the U.S., CLUW has a strong network of 36 chapters throughout the nation. CLUW is endorsed by the AFL-CIO and its international and national unions. CLUW local chapters educate members, keep them up-to-date on a variety of issues of concern to working families, and provide a support network for women in unions.

ERA Coalition

The ERA Coalition and Fund for Women’s Equality is a movement of movements, comprised of nearly 300 partner organizations across the country, representing 80 million people.

From gender, racial, economic, and reproductive justice to LGBTQ+ rights, we unite interconnected, intergenerational, and intersectional organizations under one banner: to advance sex equality. This is what unites us all.

We are stronger when we stand together. The ERA Coalition works to shift how people think and talk about seemingly disparate issues toward an inclusive forum where all voices of society are centered and united around a powerful and shared goal. Alongside our partners, we share strategies and resources at local, state, and federal levels, build support within Congress, provide legislative expertise, educate the public about the urgent need for constitutional equality, and more.

The ERA Coalition and ERA Coalition Forward were created in 2014 to energize and coordinate the renewed effort to have sex equality enshrined in the US Constitution through the Equal Rights Amendment. We envision a world without health, legal, education, and economic disparities.

Stand with us as we unleash a new wave of education, coalition building, and advocacy to finally make gender equality under the law a reality. Learn more.

Federally Employed Women

Federally Employed Women (FEW) is a private, non-profit organization founded in 1968 shortly after government issued Executive Order 11375 which added sex-discrimination to the list of prohibited discrimination within the Federal Government. Although E.O. 11375 was an important milestone, several women were concerned that the Civil Service Commission and individual agencies may not put forth the vigorous effort necessary to ensure compliance with E.O. 11375. Although the Federal Women’s Program (FWP) had been established, the early organizers of FEW realized that the government could dismantle FWP, and they wanted to ensure that there would always be an organization dedicated to promoting equality for women and addressing concerns of women in the Federal workforce. Additionally, because FWP is a government function, it is limited in its political scope, and cannot lobby Congress. As a private organization, FEW is not restricted in that area.
As a private organization, FEW works as an advocacy group to improve the status of women employed by the Federal government. This includes contact with Congress to encourage progressive legislation. FEW national officers meet with management officials at all levels of agencies to demonstrate support of the FWP, encourage officials to support the program and to obtain insight on the effectiveness of the FWP at agency and local levels. Last but not least, FMF supports effective action to combat climate change.

Ford's Theatre Society

One of the most visited sites in the nation’s capital, Ford’s Theatre reopened its doors in 1968, more than a hundred years after the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. Operated through a partnership between Ford’s Theatre Society and the National Park Service, Ford’s Theatre is the premier destination in the nation’s capital to explore and celebrate Abraham Lincoln’s ideals and leadership principles: courage, integrity, equality and creative expression.

Since the arrival of Director Paul R. Tetreault, critics and the theatregoing public have recognized Ford’s for the superior quality of its artistic programming, with works from the Tony-nominated "Come From Away" and nationally acclaimed "Big River " to the world premieres of "Meet John Doe," "The Heavens Are Hung In Black," "Liberty Smith," "Necessary Sacrifices," "The Widow Lincoln" and "The Guard." For its accomplishments, the organization was honored in 2008 with the National Medal of Arts.

In the past decade, the mission of Ford’s Theatre Society expanded to include education as a central pillar. This expansion led to the creation and construction of the Center for Education and Leadership, which opened in February 2012. Currently, under the leadership of Board of Trustees Chairman Eric A. Spiegel, the Society is building Ford’s Theatre into a national destination for exploring Lincoln’s ideas and leadership principles and finding new ways to bring Lincoln’s legacy to life for the 21st-century learner.

VOICEINSPORT Foundation

The VOICEINSPORT Foundation (the “Foundation” or “VISF”) is a global 501c3 non-profit organization on a mission to accelerate equity for girls and women in sport. We believe the more support girls and women have in support the more powerful they become. They build confidence, community, and become leaders. But girls still don’t have the same opportunities as boys. The VOICEINSPORT Foundation takes action — and closes the gap — across 3 pillars: Research, Education and Advocacy:

  1. We Research – Only 3% of sports science research is conducted with women athletes. We are changing the game through funding groundbreaking research with industry leading partners like Stanford, Harvard and more, on the women athlete mind and body;
  2. We Educate – 83% of high school coaches in the U.S have never been educated on Title IX – the 1972 law ensuring that no person on the basis of sex in the U.S. shall be excluded from, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity (including sports). Schools are also not required to conduct training. The Foundation holds Title IX trainings at high school and college campuses across the U.S., educating hundreds of athletes, coaches and administrators on the law, their rights, so they can raise their voices for change;
  3. We Advocate – The VIS Advocate Program is the largest grass-roots advocacy program for diverse, women athlete leaders at the high school and collegiate level, training on Title IX rights, educating and taking action for equity. The VIS Advocate Leaders start VIS Chapters at their schools, funding Title-IX inequities through VIS Title IX Grants and raising their voice through Direct-action on Capitol Hill.
