Heritage and Harmony: Indira Mahajan

American soprano, Indira Mahajan has gained international acclaim performing with leading opera companies and orchestras throughout the world. Praised for her “stunning” voice by Opera Wire and “riveting” performance by Opera News, Ms. Mahajan’s critical acclaim extends from works in the Baroque and Classical genres to the foremost composers of today. Operatic Highlights include, Madama Butterfly, Sour Angelica, Aida, Lucia di Lammermoor, Santuzza in Cavallaria Rusicana, Elena in I Vespri Sicilani,  Mimi and Musetta in La Bohème, Violetta in La Traviata, Gilda in Rigoletto, Nedda in I Pagliacci, and Bess in Porgy and Bess . Indira Mahajan is the recipient of numerous awards including the prestigious Marian Anderson Award. Born in New York City to South Asian and African American parents. Beginning her musical studies at age 5 as a violinist, she received her Bachelor’s degree from the Oberlin College, and Master’s Degree from the Mannes College of Music.
