Timothy M. Russell

Timothy M. Russell is the Vice President of Community Engagement and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion of Window to the World Communications, Inc. (WWCI), parent organization of Chicago’s PBS station WTTW and classical music radio station WFMT. Tim is responsible for leading community engagement and DEI efforts for WTTW-WFMT, focusing on shaping the organization’s vision and strategy with relevant influencers, nonprofits, foundations, and business partners to ensure that they align with the organization’s strategic plan. Prior to joining WWCI, Tim served as Chief Global Diversity and Inclusion Officer for CDK Global, where he was responsible for the development and execution of diversity, inclusion and CSR strategies aligned with CDK's global business objectives.
Tim received his Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology and religion from Oberlin College, earned a Master's degree in Theological Studies with a concentration in Ethics and Society from Garrett Theological Seminary, and completed a certificate program in Business Administration at Loyola University Chicago. As an undergraduate, Tim was awarded a Ford-Mellon Research Fellowship and a Ronald E. McNair Research Fellowship.
Tim has served on the board of directors of several nonprofit organizations including the Evanston Community Foundation, Goodman Theatre, Association of Black Foundation Executives (former Chair), Chicago African Americans In Philanthropy (Co-founder and former Chair), Urban Prep, Muntu Dance Theatre, Paternal Involvement Project, School Street Movement, and the Lorain County Midnight Basketball Program. Currently, Tim is a board member of the YWCA Evanston/Northshore.
Tim has been recognized by Garrett Theological Seminary’s Center for the Church and the Black Experience Faithful 50, a selection of 50 Black alums who exemplify faithfulness, commitment, and perseverance in ministry through their leadership in academic, nonprofit, and congregational settings. He has also been recognized by Savoy Magazine, Diversity MBA Magazine as a Top 100 Under 50 Diverse Executive Leaders, and the Chicago African Americans in Philanthropy Handy L. Lindsey, Jr. Award and Lecture on Inclusiveness in Philanthropy.
Tim and his wife, Joi-Anissa, and their children, Mark and Ava, live in the Chicago suburb of Evanston, Illinois.
