Margot Canaday is professor of history at Princeton University.

Her work to date has been at the intersection of legal and political history and the history of gender and sexuality. In 2009, she published The Straight State: Sexuality and Citizenship in 20th Century America (Princeton University Press) and forthcoming in January of 2023 will be a second book (and sequel of sorts):  Queer Career: Sexuality and Work in Modern America (Princeton University Press). She is also co-editor, with Nancy Cott and Robert Self, of Intimate States: Gender, Sexuality, and Governance in Modern America (University of Chicago Press, 2021).
